WiFi is a popular wireless communication technology found in most modern computers and mobile devices. Designed to supplement, or in some cases replace the local area network (LAN) found in most office environments, it allow you to use your WiFi enabled computer or mobile device to easily access your office LAN to surf the internet, check email or access business applications/ services anywhere within your office. Communication between your WiFi device and the LAN is handled through one or more Access Points (APs) that provide the required area of coverage. Since APs provide a circular area of coverage that will likely extend beyond the confines of your office walls the need for security features like firewalls, which block unauthorized access, are very important. Further, since data transmission is handled over the 2.4 Ghz public access unlicensed communication band it is important to select the right AP communication channel to reduce the effects of interference and bandwidth degradation that is common in build-up areas like office towers, where multiple WiFi LANs exist in close proximity to each other.
